The mayor and Borough Council meeting was held Monday night and there were no public comments or concerns at this time. Committee chair people gave their reports and some of the information included the following:
Council President Sherri Lynn thanked the mayor and council for supporting the recognition of the volunteers with the service awards.
She also congratulated Councilman Lou Fisher for a successful spaghetti dinner benefiting the replacement of the Manville High School sign.
Ms. Lynn also thanked Phil Petrone and the Department of Public Works for the blue lights on the large Christmas tree on Main Street for the Autism Awareness.
A discussion was held regarding replacing the signs that hang overhead on Main Street for events that have become worn. Council members would like to get sponsors to help defray the costs.
Rich Onderko reported that the tonnage for garbage pickup last week went down 16 tons. In 2010 is was 72 tons and in 2011 it was 56 tons. “It seems like more people are recycling these days,” he said. Sheriff Frank Provanzano provides inmates to come and clean up in Manville on the weekends at the parks and the schools.
Lou Petzinger reported that the Manville Business and Professional Association will be starting the Farmers Market in May when the weather is nicer.
Lou Fisher reported that he was able to attend the Manville Recreation egg hunt and said there were about 200 kids and parents even though the day was not the best.
Mr. Fisher also helped at the spaghetti dinner Saturday for the MHS Digital sign and said they served 350 people and all the proceeds were earmarked for the sign.
”A lot of people worked, a lot of people helped, It was a great experience,” he said.
The recreation spring sports have started and the fields are ready to go. “The numbers for softball are down but up everywhere else,” he said.
