Manville volunteers were honored Monday night at the Borough Council meeting for their service to the town. Those honored were given an appreciation service award.
Borough Clerk Philip Petrone read a proclamation from the mayor and council declaring the month of April to be Volunteer Month in the borough and urged residents to recognize the valuable work done every day by volunteers in the community.
”We are so fortunate in this town that we are such a tight-knit community that we have so many volunteers. All those years that people have given in this town and away from their families,” said Mayor Lillian Zuza.
”When we have floods, those guys sleep down at the fire house and when we have any kind of catastrophe they are on duty. They are down there and representing us. That also goes along with our police department and our rescue squad. We are very fortunate in this town. Without you, we would never ever get accomplished what we get accomplished and mostly for the safety of our residents,” the mayor said.
Mayor Zuza and Borough Council President Sherri Lynn announced each recipient and presented them with a certificate.
Ms. Lynn began with the volunteers having 10 years of service. Those included Tammy Hunt, Irene Brygier, David Boyd and Chris Gluch.
Jason Allen and Lynn McDaniel both have 15 years while Greg Snyder and Walt Mathewson have 20 years.
Mark Malinowski has volunteered for 30 years. Thuirty-five year volunteers were Ed Brygier Sr., Walt Wilczek, Angie Wilczek, Gary Jeremiah and Dave Tarby.
Ken Otriminski has 36 years of service, George Cichon has 38, and for 45 years Tom Matyk, Dave Mroz, Tom Wood and Marion Gano have served the community.
Sandy Fillipini has volunteered for 51 years, Olga Pichnarcyzk for 52 years, and 58 years for John Bukovecky. Verna DeBellas has 60 years, 61 years for Ann Regiec, and 63 years for Sally Lisay.
