HILLSBOROUGH: Kretz succeeds Dreves as library board’s leader

The Hillsborough Public Library Advisory Board has elected Hillsborough resident Christine Kretz as its president for 2011. Ms. Kretz succeeds Carter Dreves, who served as president since 2007.
Since joining the board in 2003, Mr. Dreves has chaired the membership and publicity committees, served as its vice-president for two years and completed four consecutive terms as its president.
During his presidency, the board revised and expanded its mission and by-laws, created a Hillsborough High School student liaison on the board and established finance, improvements, special events and fund-raising committees.
During the same period, the board upgraded lighting throughout the library, renovated the large display cabinet, created a new multi-media room and writing center, improved electrical connections, re-carpeted and expanded the Children’s Room and bought portable staging for special programs the library holds for the public. All improvements were paid from overdue fees and financial contributions managed by the Advisory Board.
Mr. Dreves will remain as a regular member and advisor for the balance of 2011, when he will complete the final year of the nine permitted by by-laws. At that time, he and his wife, Judith, who served nine years (1994-2002) and was president when the new library was built, will have given a total of 18 years of service to the public library.
