A man from Edison was arrested Monday for allegedly attempting to steal liquor at the Wine Gallery liquor store on April 8, police said.
Police said Emmanuel Diaz, 21, entered the store at 24 Summerfield Blvd. about 7 p.m. on April 8 and tried to steal liquor.
The store manager confronted Mr. Diaz, and there was a “scuffle,” according to police.
Mr. Diaz was able to break free and ran outside into the parking lot, police said.
The store manager was uninjured during the confrontation and ensuing scuffle, police said.
Patrolman Ken Herman responded to the store and recognized Mr. Diaz while reviewing the store’s surveillance video.
Patrolman Herman then interviewed people who also identified Mr. Diaz, police said.
Police said they unsuccessfully attempted to find Mr. Diaz during the last week until Patrolman Herman learned he worked at the McDonald’s on Route 1 Monday night.
Mr. Diaz was then arrested at the McDonald’s without incident, police said.
Police said he was processed and placed in the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick on $50,000 bail.
Mr. Diaz was charged with robbery and simple assault, police said.
