HIGHTSTOWN East Windsor’s former deputy mayor will not be able to drive for the next seven months after taking a plea deal Wednesday evening, pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated and to refusing to offer a breath sample in connection with his March 1 arrest in Hightstown.
Municipal Judge James Newman ordered Walter T. Daniels, who resigned from the Township Council in late March after his arrest report became public, to pay fines and fees totaling $654 for the DWI offense and $439 for the breath sample charge. Additional charges of DWI within a school zone, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to maintain a lane were dropped in the plea.
Mr. Daniels declined comment. He was represented by Mark Shane, of Shane and White, LLC, from Edison.
