MANVILLE: Police to help dispose of prescription drugs

The Manville Police Department will take part in the second National Prescription Drug Take Back Day “Operation Take Back New Jersey” on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the police station at 2 North Main St.
Operation Take Back is a safe medicine disposal day and it open to all residents.
”It was successful last year so we are doing it again,” Chief Mark Peltack said.
This initiative is to encourage residents to properly dispose of their unused, unwanted and expired medicine. All medicines will be accepted with the exception of syringes.
A statewide effort has the majority of New Jersey police departments participating and this is spearheaded by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) New Jersey Division, the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, the NY/NJ HIDTA and the New Jersey National Guard.
Residents that have any medicines that are not being used, can bring them to the police station and they will be properly disposed of. Last year New Jersey residents cleaned out their cabinets and medicine chests to collect over 9,000 pounds of medicine that was unwanted.
