Heidi Kahme, chairwoman, Hopewell Valley Municipal Alliance
Titusville
I’ve learned from the National Wildlife Federation-Be Out There Campaign that American children have moved indoors in the last two decades, taking a mental and physical toll on them.
Childhood obesity is on the rise; children’s creativity, concentration and social skills are on the decline. Studies have shown that time spent outdoors helps children’s imaginations, attention spans and boosts classroom performance.
That is why it is so important for Hopewell Valley families to take advantage of all the free activities that are happening over the next three days in our community to get everyone outside and in nature (April 21 — “Alliance: Families should go outside between April 28 and 30”).
Named Hopewell Valley Come Outside and Play!, this three-day event will culminate on April 30 with a Community Picnic at Rosedale Park (Federal City Road) from noon-3 p.m. Many activities are planned at the picnic. They include a wildlife show, scavenger hunt, fishing derby and much more. The forecast is fabulous!
The Municipal Alliance would like to thank the dozen organizations that have partnered to bring Hopewell Valley Come Outside and Play! to our community. Activities also will take place in our elementary schools. Be sure to ask your students what they did!
