WEST WINDSOR John Nieradka, 16, of West Windsor, attained the rank of Eagle Scout on Nov. 9, 2010 during the 100th year anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.
His Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held April 3 at Elks Lodge 1955, Hightstown, which sponsors Boy Scout Troop 6284. Scoutmaster of the troop is Glenn VanWhy. The Four Winds Ceremony was conducted by the Order of the Arrow, scouting’s honor society of which John is a member.
John’s Eagle Scout project was conducted April 2010 during three consecutive weekends at the Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park towpath where he led his fellow Scouts and adult leaders in the installation of half-mile markers for a stretch of 10.6 miles from Kingston Locks to Amwell Road, East Millstone.
This project benefits the many people who use the towpath for jogging, biking, and walking. The endeavor entailed sawing wood for the markers for placement at the towpath where holes were dug with use of augers and steel bars. The markers were placed, with gravel and sand added for stabilization and aesthetics.
John is a sophomore at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South where he is a violinist in the school’s orchestra.
John is the son of John and Maria Nieradka of West Windsor. His sister, Briana, is a college sophomore.
