CRANBURY: Library honors its employees

By David Kilby, Staff Writer
CRANBURY — The board of trustees of the Cranbury Public Library honored library staff members, including an autistic man who has worked there for 20 years.
The annual event, held this year on April 8 at the home of board member Patricia Thomsson, was organized to thank the staff for their outstanding service during the past year.
This year, the library honored three staff anniversaries. Harriet Schwartz and Denise McQueeney celebrated their 10th year with the library, and Owen Dennehy, the autistic man, celebrated working at the library for 20 years.
Ms. Schwartz works as a page, and Ms. McQueeney is a library assistant.
Mr. Dennehy also works as a page, shelving books and making sure they are in proper Dewey Decimal order.
”It’s an exacting job that is highly important to the organization of materials in every library,” said Marilynn Mullen, director of the library. “Owen is diligent in helping us maintain order in our collection.”
Ms. Mullen also said the celebration was special because April is National Autism Awareness Month.
”Despite this challenge, Owen is a valuable staff member of our library and other libraries where he works,” Ms. Mullen said. “We celebrate his accomplishments and hope he will be working with us another 20 years.”
