HIGHTSTOWN A fire gutted a two-story William Street home Monday morning.
Firefighters were still tearing panels and insulation from the smoldering house at 11:45 a.m., nearly two hours after it was first reported at about 10 a.m..
Hightstown Mayor Steve Kirson said one woman was in the house when the fire began. She escaped but was suffering from mild smoke inhalation, he said. Hightstown Engine Co. No. 1 Deputy Chief Scott Jenkins was on the scene at 122 William St., assisting his team of volunteer firefighters who were putting out the blaze. Neighboring fire companies from East Windsor, Jamesburg, Plainsboro, Hamilton, Millstone and even Manalapan came to assist, along with ambulances from Princeton and Capital Health Systems.
