Hillsborough’s Graphic Matter matters.
Beverly Rossi, president, owner and founder of Graphic Matter, Inc., was presented with the New York region’s Rising Star Award from the Women Presidents’ Educational Organization at the WPEO awards breakfast on March 4 in New York City.
”The program is designed to help build relationships between women business owners and the corporate sponsors who would be purchasing from women business owners,” Ms. Rossi said.
Ms. Rossi beat out more than 900 other companies for her award.
“It’s great recognition for us because it helps to get our name known among the corporate buyers,” she said. “When you’re a small business trying to get work from a company like Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson, it is so hard to get on the radar screen. They don’t even know who you are. They are dealing with companies that are big and that’s who they typically contract their work to.
”When you get an award like this, you become recognized. People who attend these events are those buyers who are doing these multi-million dollar contracts. You become a known entity so at least you can participate in the process of submitting a bid. For a small business, that is a huge milestone.”
Ms. Rossi founded the company in 2002. At its headquarters at 601 Route 206, Graphic Matter specializes in graphic, web and instructional design. It also designs services marketing and training materials for print and web, Ms. Rossi said.
The company has taken home three other awards since becoming certified five years ago. To qualify, the business must be owned and operated by a woman.
Graphic Matter is also certified with the Women Business Enterprise National Council and the N.J. Small Business Enterprise for government contracts with PSE&G, NJ Transit or the Turnpike Authority, for instance.
The WBENC is national and focused on private center, so making corporate relationships with a private center,” she said.
“The N.J. SBE is the state level and that’s for government contracting. If I wanted to do work with PSE&G, NJ Transit or the Turnpike Authority [it would require the SBE].”
