The annual Memorial Day festivities will be held on Saturday, May 28. The event will kick off with the sixth annual Salute to Veterans breakfast at the Municipal Building at 8:30 a.m., followed by the parade, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Auten Road and Triangle Road.
The breakfast will be held rain or shine and is open to all Hillsborough veterans who protected the nation during a time of peace or war, those who served in the National Guard and Reserves, and those actively serving in the military. Spouses and widows of veterans are also invited to attend the breakfast and then join the parade.
”Memorial Day is about remembering and honoring those who gave their lives in the service of our nation, for our freedom and liberty,” said Committeeman Bob Wagner, who is also the township’s veterans liaison. “Here in Hillsborough we believe there is no group better to lead us in that remembrance than our military veterans.”
Mr. Wagner added that invitations to veterans will be put in the mail soon and there will be more information about the commemoration events on the township’s website as the date gets closer.
As has been the case in recent years, the ceremony at the Garden of Honor at 11:15 a.m. will conclude formal events for the day. Refreshments will be provided on the Municipal Building lawn at the conclusion of the ceremony.
”We strongly encourage all veterans to provide their leadership and join is on May 28 in commemorating this important day,” Mr. Wagner said.
The rain date for all events besides the breakfast is Sunday, May 29.
