HILLSBOROUGH: Woman says man accosted her across Raritan canal

She reported incident to Franklin Township police

A Hillsborough woman reported to police Monday she was accosted when she was walking along the Raritan canal towpath about a mile from the Blackwell Mills causeway in Franklin Township.
She said she was walking around 3:50 p.m. when she heard a man say “yo” to attract her attention from the other side of the canal. She looked to see a naked man masturbating, she said.
She said she yelled at him, called him “sick” and told him she was going to call police. When she took out her cell phone, the man took off to Canal Road and toward his parked pickup truck on Miller Farm Road, she said.
She said she saw him dress hurriedly, get into an older green-blue pickup with a white camper cap and drive away.
She described the man as a white male in his 40s, brown hair, about 6 feet tall, broad chested and with facial hair.
Franklin Township police said no other similar incidents had been reported.
The woman said she has walked the path two or three times a week for the last 20 years without incident.
