Hunninghake reappointment urged

Jim Downey, BOrdentown City
I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Mike Hunninghake will not be reappointed to the Bordentown City Environmental Commission (BCEC).
How is this possible? Over the past 11 years that I have lived here, I can think of no one person has done more to make Bordentown City a healthier, greener, and in general, a better place to live.
I think the City Commissioners should do everything in their power to keep Mike as chairperson of this important city asset.
The BCEC is recognized as an exemplary model for other environmental commissions throughout New Jersey.
For the past nine years, I know Mike has been primarily responsible for that praise.
However, I know Mike would not make this claim and would rather credit all those people who volunteer to do the many tasks that get done every year: cleaning along the creeks on Earth Day, building and maintaining our local hiking trails, being the BCEC point man at the street fairs, and so much more.
While I myself am not what you would call an environmentalist, I recognize the hard work that the BCEC does and I appreciate it.
We who live in Bordentown City reap the benefits of those efforts. I urge all residents of Bordentown who recognize the great work that Mike Hunninghake has done to attend the May 9 City Council meeting at Carslake Community Center and speak up in defense of his reappointment to the BCEC.
