MANVILLE: Scouts seek help in placing flags

Memorial Day is coming up as a holiday to remember all those who have served our country. Every year, Boy Scout Troop 193 and the American Legion help honor those veterans by replacing the flags on their grave sites. The Scouts have been honoring the veterans by doing this service for over 15 years.
Scoutmaster of Troop 193 Jim Kelly is asking for help this year to identify those who served our country and are buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Holy Ghost and St. Peter and Paul’s.
”On May 14, the Boy Scouts in conjunction with the American Legion are going to be putting flags on the graves of veterans. One of the things that has happened over the years is that as some of the medallions that mark these graves are broken, they become misplaced. When we go to put flags on them, we can only go by that.”
The Scouts and leaders go row by row looking at each individual gravesite for the medallion or a tattered American flag to replace. “I wanted to announce this in the paper for anyone who was a veteran or the families of a veteran would let me know approximately where to find these graves,” he said. Mr. Kelly needs the cemetery, the row number and the approximate location so a flag and new medallion can be placed.
If you have a veteran in your family that is buried at one of these three cemeteries, please e-mail Mr. Kelly at [email protected] by May 12 with the information so that the Veteran will have their recognition for Memorial Day.
