HIGHTSTOWN — East Windsor Regional School District reorganized on Monday.
Robert Laverty was elected this year’s board president while math teacher Lisa Abel was sworn in as the board’s newest member.
Ms. Abel joined the board less than a week after voters opted to select her over incumbent and outgoing board President Alice Weisman.
Ms. Abel defeated Ms. Weisman by 194 votes — 773 to 579. “The meeting went well,” Ms. Abel said in an e-mail statement to the Windsor-Hights Herald. “It was a different feeling being on the other side of the table.”
Additionally, Kennedy Paul became the board’s new vice president, also by unanimous vote. Previously, Mr. Laverty had served as the board’s vice president.
The board also reinstated board members Suzann Fallon and Susan Lloyd. Both Ms. Fallon and Ms. Lloyd won unopposed bids for reelection on April 27.
Board member Paul Connolly did not attend the reorganization meeting.
In addition to paying bills, filling appointments and approving a new regular meeting calendar, the board also designated the Windsor-Hights Herald, The Times of Trenton, and the Courier News as the its official newspapers to meet the requirement of the Open Public Meetings Act.
The next school board meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. on May 16 at the Hightstown High School cafeteria.
