West Windsor, N.J. — Lucas Kelly, MCCC assistant professor of Fine Arts, is featured in a new exhibit, "Perfect Citizen," to be presented by the Arts Council of Princeton from May 7 – June 25. Kelly will exhibit four watercolors and a site specific installation called "Unlimited Time Offer."
In addition to Kelly, other featured artists include Paul Coors, Andrew Demirjian, Tim Eads, Aron Johnston, Debbie Reichard, Erin M. Riley, Yumi Janairo Roth, Chris Vorhees, and Andrew R. Wilkinson.
The exhibition is free and can be viewed at the Paul Robeson Center, 102 Witherspoon Street, Princeton. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 7, 4-6 p.m. A free artist talk and butter churning event with Tim Eads will take place on Monday, May 23, 5-7 p.m.
According to a press release from the Arts Council, "The exhibit positions the artist as an observer, subversive and trickster with a practiced ability to access and act on intuition. The well-crafted, visually minimal object will predominate the show, which will include sculpture, tapestry, and work on paper and video."
In a biographical portrait, Kelly is described as a minimalist who has been influenced by the punk rock and other hardcore music of his youth. Referencing his interest in Minimalism of the 60’s, the biography continues: "He likes the idea of taking their aesthetic and infusing it with a personal narrative."
