SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Sports News & Notes

   After an initial season of learning the game of basketball under coaches Derek Underwood and Conrad Wright, the South Brunswick boys 4th-grade travel basketball team enjoyed a successful campaign.Focus and hard work paved the way for the Side Lee Viking Classic Tournament championship, as they rallied from an 18-point deficit to start the second half. The Vikings battled from fourth place to beat an undefeated team and take second place in the Central Jersey Youth Basketball League. SB also took first in the North Brunswick League, and wrapped up the season by winning the New Jersey PAL Tournament for North and South Jersey.
   The South Brunswick Soccer Club’s U-14 Fire turned in a dominating performance against the Hillsborough Hurricanes, notching a 3-0 victory. After a scoreless first half marked by outstanding defensive from by Alexi Rissiotis, Tyler Bourdon, Nick Marna and Ramy Badawy, South Brunswick mounted a relentless second-half attack, producing goals by Harrison Welsher, Corey Gorelick and Ryan Cauley with support from Joe Mastro, Kyle Ferry, Alex Mercurio and Matt Cannon. Cannon and Mastro shared the shutout in goal.
   SBAA is holding Sophomore Legion and summer tournament travel baseball tryouts on Saturday, May 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rowland Park for players whose birthdays fall between May 1, 1996 and Apr. 30, 1998. Players must be registered for SBAA spring recreation baseball and be a resident of South Brunswick. SBAA is looking for form a Sophomore Legion team.
   Go to wwww.sbaabaseball.com and under the main menu on the left click on SBAA Tournament Baseball and Softball. Once there, click on Baseball Tryout Registration Form and register for tryouts. Anyone wishing to manage should go to the SBAA Tournament baseball website. All candidates will be considered after tryouts.

   SBAA 8U summer travel tryouts will be held Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rowland Park. If a players birthday falls between May 1, 2002 and April 30, 2003, and they are registered for the SBAA Spring recreation baseball season, and are a resident of South Brunswick Township, the are eligible to tryout.
   It is highly encouraged every player attends both days of tryouts. If a player wants to be considered for selection, every player must be at part of the tryout. Anyone unable to be at any part of the tryout must contact Jim Cooney prior to the start of tryouts.
   Go to wwww.sbaabaseball.com and under the main menu on the left click on SBAA Tournament Baseball and Softball. Once there, click on Baseball Tryout Registration Form and register for tryouts. All head coach candidates will be considered after tryouts conclude. Independent evaluators will be at the entire tryout and rate each player on their ability to throw, run, catch, hit and run the bases.
   The travel season begin toward the end of May and concludes at the end of July. The season will be on weekends until school ends. Once school ends expect to have practice or a game every day until the end of July.

   The South Brunswick Soccer Club is holding tryouts for Travel soccer for ages U8 (born August 2003 or later) through U16 (born August 1995 or later) on May 7 and 14 from 4:45 – 9:00pm at Harvest Wood and Sondek Park.
