BORDENTOWN CITY: City eyes 2.8-cent tax rate hike

BORDENTOWN CITY — The average homeowner would see a $68.88 increase in municipal taxes if the 2011-12 municipal budget introduced Monday by the City Commission becomes final.
The proposed $5,313,612 budget is not exceeding the 2 percent state-mandated cap.
Residents assessed at the average $245,981 would pay a 79.2 cents per $100 of assessed value for a total of $1,948.17. The current tax rate is 76.4 cents. The budget does not call for any layoffs or disruption of services.
Deputy Mayor Heather Cheesman said she is proud that the city was able to create a budget that stays under the 2 percent cap without laying anyone off and maintaining all of the current programs.
”I think it’s a very good budget,” she said.
