HILLSBOROUGH: Armed robber threatens pharmacist

Police charged a Monmouth Junction man Saturday for the armed robbery of the Walgreen’s drugstore on Route 206 at the Raider Boulevard intersection.
At about 6:46 p.m. a caller reported to township police that there was some type of problem between the pharmacist and a customer.
Officers responded and found Anthony Giarratano, 23, of Junction Pond Lane outside the business. He fit the caller’s description, and was detained.
Police learned that Mr. Giarratano allegedly went to the prescription counter demanding a list of prescription medications. After being questioned by the pharmacist, Mr. Giarratano produced a knife. The pharmacist gave Mr. Giarratano some medications to avoid being injured, police said. Mr. Giarratano was trying to leave when police arrived, they said.
Mr. Giarratano was charged with first-degree robbery, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
As of Tuesday, he was still lodged in the Somerset County Jail without bail.
It’s the second robbery in Hillsborough in about three weeks. On May 3, Julian Moreno, 26, of Hillsborough plead guilty to laying in wait on April 18 for an employee to open the Philly Pretzel Factory store on Route 206 and threatening him with a baseball bat until the employee turned over $200 from the cash register.
Mr. Moreno’s sentencing is scheduled for July 1.
