HILLSBOROUGH: State Green Acres coming to township

By Andrew Corselli, Staff Writer
Hillsborough Township has been approved to receive $675,000 in state Green Acres grant funds to be used for preserving open space and improving parks.
”Every time we can find other sources for land preservation, it means that the township’s fund can go that much further and be available for other preservation opportunities,” Committeeman Bob Wagner said in a press release.
It is unclear what land the money will go towards improving, but Mr. Wagner said some are under negotiation.
”It’s nice to have that,” he said. “I’m sure we’ll put that to good use at some point this year. We’re always looking for properties that make sense for the township and for the residents,” he said.
Under the grant, Hillsborough will provide matching funds through the township’s Open Space Fund.
”One of the reasons Hillsborough was approved for the grant is because we are able (to) use the money to aggressively preserve land throughout the township and protect it from future development,” Mr. Wagner said in the release. “Green Acres likes to see that Hillsborough is able to show tangible results in thousands of acres of preserved land.”
