The Manville Recreation Department is now sending out its program notices and registrations via e-mail. The department will no longer be sending home flyers through the schools due to the rising costs of producing the copies.
Director of Manville Recreation Rich Armstrong urged all residents to sign up on the website manvillerec.org to register your e-mail address for all the recreation program details. Mr. Armstrong also said that,”There are summer employment opportunities for kids 15 and older CPR guards and certified life guards. The pay is based on their experience and qualifications. The deadline to submit applications will be June 6.”
The summer information has been distributed and there are program for children and adults. Recreation sports camps, summer camps, swim lessons and aqua aerobic classes are being held and registration is now open.
Manville pools
Manville pools will be opening on June 18 and the Recreation Department is taking registrations for swim lessons and aqua aerobic classes at the Recreation Office in Borough Hall Monday-Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. Evening registrations will be held on Tuesday, May 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, June 7 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Season badges are $30 each and for $15 senior citizens. Swim lessons are $50, senior aqua aerobics morning or evening is $10. Swim lessons will be held weekday mornings at Memorial Pool. There are two aqua aerobic morning classes and one evening class. All classes are held at Cooper Pool in the valley.
Mustang Madness
Soccer Camp
The soccer camp will be held June 20 to June 24 at Manville High School for grades one through three from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Each day will begin with a meet and greet for campers and parents, warm up (includes one foot move), technique and skill practices (relevant to theme of the day), and game related/small sided games. Staff will include Coach Shannon, Manville High Girls soccer coach and Coach McCarrick, Manville High Boys soccer coach, along with volunteer staff from the Manville High boys and girls soccer teams. The cost is $40 per camper.
Soccer players in grades four through eight camp will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from June 27 to July 1, also at MHS and coached by the MHS soccer coaches. The cost is $50 per camper and the daily camp includes a meet and greet for campers and parents, warm up (includes one foot move), technique and skills practices (relevant to theme of the day) and game related/small sided games. Lunch will be from 11:30 to noon and campers are to bring a bag lunch. The afternoon brings World Cup (small-sided tournament) and camp closure and announcements.
Mustang Madness
Baseball Camp
Mustang Madness Baseball Camp for grades four through eight will be held from July 11 to July15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Manville High ball fields. The cost is $50 per participant and camp instructors are Manville High School baseball coach Dan Sferrazza and ABIS baseball coach William Kurzius. Participants will work on the fundamentals of baseball and are encouraged to further develop their individual skills. Areas covered include: fielding, hitting, throwing, base running, pitching, catching, strategy, and game rules.
Basketball Camp
Basketball camp for grades four through eight will be held June 20 to June 24 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Manville High School Gymnasium and the cost is $75. Camp instructors will be Manville High School boys varsity basketball coach Marty Gieger and Manville High School girls varsity coach Missy Rampel. Participants will work on the fundamentals of basketball and are encouraged to further develop their individual skills. Areas covered include: teamwork, ball handling, passing, dribbling, rebounding, shooting, strategy, defense and game rules.
Weston and ABIS
Summer Camps
For those not into sports, the Manville Recreation Department has teamed with the Manville Youth Services and the Manville Municipal Alliance to sponsor Summer Camps at Weston and ABIS. Both Summer Camps run July 11 to 15; July 18 to 22; and July 25 to 29.
Weston Camp is for students going into grades one through four and is held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. The cost is $50 a week per child and campers bring a bag lunch Monday through Thursday and will have pizza on Friday. There will be juice, snacks and water provided each day. A pool party will be held for all campers on July 29 from 7 to 9 p.m.
ABIS Camp for students going into grades five through eight will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is $25 a week. Refreshments will be provided each day. A pool party will be held July 28 from to 9 p.m.
