MANVILLE: Town welcomes store

By Mary Ellen Zangara, Special Writer
Manville welcomed a new business to town last week in the 1$ Zone in the Marketplace at Manville. The new store is now where the old Rag Shop was and officially opened Friday after months of preparation.
The grand opening at the North Main Street store was May 6 and business was good, according to store manager Sandeep Bhardwaj.
”My boss liked this location and all the other (1$ Zones) are located next to a Wal-Mart. He has six more stores all next to Wal-Mart so I think that is why,” Mr. Bhardwaj said.
It was so busy the opening day that the store stayed open until 10 p.m. instead of closing at 9 p/m. “We came at 7 a.m. and there were people outside lining up already,” he said.
Edmund Spoko of Manville came in Saturday to check the new place out.
”It is great. It gives all the customers the opportunity to shop and the prices are all reasonable and they don’t have to worry about buying anything expensive anywhere else. Customers need other spots to shop besides Wal-Mart and the other stores out of town. In due time it will draw a lot of customers,” he said.
Ellen Bogusky of Bridgewater also came to see what the 1 $ Zone had to offer.
”I think it is awesome. It is well stocked, it is conspicuously clean and I have a good time in a dollar store finding what I need. Economy wise, I think it is excellent because the economy the way it is, this store will service many people for the good.”
Everything in the 1$ Zones is a dollar or less. “People like is because the other stores are $1.29, $1.49 but this one is strictly $1.00,” said Mr. Bhardwaj. There is everything you can think of ranging from paper products, toys, jewelry, food, candy, party items, glassware, helium balloons and much more. There are 12 employees currently in the new store. Mr. Bhardwaj said he would add more as the store business increases.
Mr. Bhardwaj hopes that the 1 $ Zone will be very successful in Manville.
”Customers come in and they praise you, it is a good store and they like it. We tried our best because it took us two and a half months to open and we are happy,” he said.
   The 1$ Zone is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
