Kendall Park resident Kenneth Arhakos, 29, was arrested Monday for allegedly taking a trumpet from a vehicle in the township public library parking lot on April 28.
Mr. Arhakos had allegedly taken the trumpet and then went to a New Brunswick business and sold it, according to police.
Police spokesman Sgt. James Ryan said the vehicle might have been unlocked.
Sgt. Ryan said Mr. Arhakos used his driver’s license at the store he sold it, which how the police found him.
Detectives were in the store investigating different cases and came upon the trumpet, and took a note of it, Sgt. Ryan said.
Within an hour, the trumpet had been reported as missing, and they went back and recovered it, Sgt. Ryan said.
Mr. Arhakos was being held in the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center on $15,000 bail, according to police.
Police said the case is being investigated by Detective Ron Seaman to determine if there are more people involved.
Sgt. Ryan said police believe this incident may be related to other incidents of items being taken from cars.
One incident took place in Kingston on April 23 and 24, when suspects entered 12 cars on Brook Drive East and Fairfield Road, police said.
The other incident was on May 2 and May 3 when another 12 cars were entered on Liberty Drive, Weatherhill Way, Renk Farm Drive, and Deerfield Trail, police said.
Items such as change, laptops and GPS units were reported missing from the vehicles including some that were reportedly unlocked, police said earlier.
Mr. Arhakos was previously arrested in November for allegedly being involved with two residential burglaries on Woodbine Road.
He was arrested and charged along with Kendall Park resident Joseph Dey, 32, in those two incidents.
Medicine and jewelry valued at several thousand dollars were recovered in those two cases, according to police.
Mr. Arhakos has also been arrested and charged with at least one D.U.I. in the past as well, according to previous police press releases.
