Hall of fame

The 2011 class of the Sayreville War Memorial High School Hall of Fame was inducted during anApril 30 banquet at the VFW Hall on Jernee Mill Road. Inductees were (l-r):

 Martin M. Rooney, class of 1989: internationally recognized fitness and martial arts expert; former martial arts trainer for New York Giants and Jets; chief operating officer of Parisi Speed School; frequent contributor to TV sports and fitness publications.

 Dr. Ann Marie Szczepanik, class of 1979: research scientist, extensive work in Alzheimer’s disease; graduate of Rutgers University and Rutgers School of Law; active participant in golf and scuba diving; volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

 Dana VanPell-Pastirik, class of 1996: owner of A Step in Time dance studio, Parlin; member New Jersey Tap Ensemble 1995-98; developing dance programs for autistic children.

 Derek Wan, class of 1998: graduate of The College of New Jersey; varied internships throughout college; worked at Newsweek Productions in television documentaries; currently working in Los Angeles in production of many current TV shows.

 Dr. James E. Applegate, class of 1960: emeritus professor at Rutgers University; research in avian malaria; advisory committee of New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.

 Dr. Toni Beninato, class of 2000: surgeon, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York; UMDNJ graduate, 2008; former track star; marathon runner.
