Firedance Studio
Firedance Studio generally features works by its owner, goldsmith, sculptor, and furniture designer le Corbeau, but on this occasion he invited his longtime friend, sculptor Dana Stewart of Lambertville to show in the gallery as well. le Corbeau provides a first look at his new silver and gold jewelry as well as a peek at his works in progress. New works include “Shimmering Waters”, a 14K gold and pearl necklace using both Biwa and Kishi pearls, and “Mimosa”, a 14K gold ring featuring Mimosa flower buds and Rubellite. Displayed in the lower trestle gallery is the new forged steel bedstead titled “In the Weeds”.
For the next few weeks the gallery will also display nearly thirty of Stewart’s playful “Beast” sculptures. These bronzes are often quickly recognized because several of them are in the permanent collection at Grounds for Sculpture. Ranging in size from 12 inches to 12 feet tall, they provide an intriguing range of gesture that quickly engages the viewer. The gestures evoke a feeling; whimsy and light heartedness in some, lament, loneliness or alarm in others. The viewer is invited to share in the sculpture by deciding what type of creature each beast may be.
Having met in the mid 1970’s at San Diego State University, le Corbeau and Stewart came east to hone their sculpture casting skills at the Johnson Atelier. Since the mid 1980’s, they have each built their own sculpture making facility, providing both a way to continue to make their own work and professional services to other artists. Firedance Studio, LLC provides metalwork services and artwork for architects, interior designers, conservators, and art collectors.
