The 74th annual Manville Area Federal Credit Union meeting was held on May 17 at the VFW Hall on Washington Avenue. About 200 credit union members and guests attended the dinner buffet and meeting.
After the buffet dinner, the annual meeting was called to order by President Paul Mroz. Mr. Mroz gave his Presidents’ Report and in part he said, “Seventy-four years later, I am happy to report that your credit union continues to function very well. In addition, your credit union once again continues to receive high marks for excellence. My thanks go out to the board members, supervisory committee and our staff for a job well done.”
According to its website, the MAFCU has 2,300 members and assets of over $22 million.
Seven members sit on the board of directors and three had their terms expire this year. Mr. Mroz and Joe Melusky will serve another three-year term as there were no others running for their positions. John Bukovecky’s term was also up but he chose not to seek re-election. Mr. Bukovecky had served on the MAFCU Board of Directors for over 40 years. Michael D’Ovidio was selected to take the place vacated by Mr. Bukovecky.
Natalie Walkoviak is the second vice president and Walt Tanalski is one of the directors. Other members of the board of directors include Sam Umbriac as first vice president, Mr. Melusky as treasurer and Pearl Roach as secretary. The supervisory committee is made up of Chairman Martin Klepach, MaryAnn Redmond, Edwina Schurick and Marquita Caroll.
Ms. Walkoviak announced the recipients of the MAFCU scholarships which she has been involved with for the past few years. The annual $1,000 scholarship was presented to Kristen Pallatta from Bridgewater High School. Kristen will be attending Rutgers University majoring in speech therapy.
A special $1,000 scholarship was also announced from member Jack Miszkowicz in memory of his daughter, Susan Miszkowicz, who lost her life in the twin towers on 9/11. Unfortunately, Mr. Miszkowicz passed away recently. The recipient for this scholarship was Nancy May, also from Bridgewater High School. Nancy will be attending the University of Scranton majoring in occupational therapy.
