In the Bucks County primary last week, there was only one contest, resulting in one candidate of 10 total eliminated from the race for the New Hope-Solebury school Board of Directors.
All 10 candidates cross-filed in the race for five four-year terms. One, Joel Tealer, of Meadowview Road, did not win a spot on either the Republican or Democratic ballot.
In the Democratic primary, the top five candidates were Susan C. Atkinson, of West Bridge Street, with 296 votes; incumbent Janice Solkov Kaufman, of Upper York Road, 256; Amy Parker, of Greenhill Road, 257; Jonathan A. Adar, of Yearling Drive, 258; and Peter Malamis, of Stoney Hill Road, 250.
In the Republican primary, the top five candidates were Ms. Atkinson, 380; Kurt A. Zander, of Riverstone Circle, 362; Joseph Harraka, of Hidden Valley Drive, 312; Valerie Mitchell, of Chapel Road, 341; and Gloria Carlineo, of Meadowview Road, 255.
Alison Kingsley, of South Main Street, was the only candidate for a two-year term on the board, and she also cross-filed. Ms. Kingsley received 476 votes from Republicans, and 423 from Democrats.
In the New Hope municipal primary, Nick Gialias, of Madison Court, was the only Republican candidate. He received 96 votes.
Democratic incumbents Geraldine Delevich, of Old Mill Road, and Rey Velasco, of Old York Road, received 99 and 108 votes respectively.
Democrat Carl Glassman, of Old Mill Road, received 78 votes. The council recently appointed Mr. Glassman to serve the remainder of the term left vacant by the resignation of Richard Hirschfield, who is moving out of state. The term expires Jan. 2, 2012.
The four candidates are vying for three four-year terms on the council.
Two candidates ran unopposed in Solebury where there is one term of six years available on the Board of Supervisors.
Republican Stanley A. Marcus, of Devonshire Drive, received 432 votes. Democrat Paul Cosdon, of Sugan Close Road, received 323 votes.
