Nicole Singer of Hillsborough, a junior who is a secondary education and English dual major, was recently named as one of the five student recipients of Rider University’s Undergraduate Research Scholars Awards.
Each year, Rider students in the colleges of Business Administration; Liberal Arts, Education, and Sciences; Continuing Studies and the Westminster College of the Arts are presented with $5,000 research scholarships.
Under Dr. Carol Brown, professor of teacher education, Singer will spend the 2011-12 academic year working on “The Impact of Leadership Training on Pre-Service Teachers: A One Year Study of Teacher Leadership.”
Working on the hypothesis that leadership training is critical for pre-service teachers, Singer seeks to develop a leadership training module for the undergraduate student teaching seminar at Rider University for this fall. The results of a needs assessment of School of Education graduates, education professors and school principals will guide the development of the leadership module, and could directly impact the curriculum in the School of Education at Rider, which is in Lawrenceville, N.J.
University of Scranton (Pa.) student Cody Fagan of Hillsborough recently completed the Scranton Emerging Leaders program, which is a series of weekly workshops for nominated students to develop and enhance leadership skills. The program focuses on communication, social change and leadership style. Fagan is a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences.
