Children of all needs and abilities will be able to enjoy the "universal playground" that will be opened officially at Ann Van Middlesworth Park on Saturday, June 11.
The park, located off Pleasant View Road, has a rubber surface to minimize the threat of injuries. It makes the site accessible and inviting to both ambulatory and non-ambulatory children, said Committeeman Anthony Ferrera, the driving force in support of the project.
"This inclusive playground is specially designed to provide play equipment to all children, those with and without special needs," said Mr. Ferrera.
"Hillsborough has always been at the forefront of inclusive recreation and has consistently looked for ways to expand recreational opportunities for our special needs children," said Mayor Gloria McCauley.
The project was funding through contributions, grants and past developer contributions, at no taxpayer dollars.
"We are so grateful to the many generous supporters who made this project possible with their donations. This is a project that will benefit the entire community by allowing children to play together," said Mr. Ferrera.
