COLUMBUS NEWS: Week of June 2

   A big community Field Day is being planned for Mansfield residents and friends.
   The day begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 11, with a parade on West/East Main Street.
   Following the parade will be activities in the park, including games for the little tots as well as games for all ages. There will be some typical carnival games, a big slide, moon bounce, puppet show, face painting, egg toss, only to mention a few.
   The highlight of the day for the youth as well as the adults will be listening to MERCK from 2 to 3 p.m., a rock band from the youth of our own community. That band will be followed from 3 to 5 p.m. by Tequila Rose Band, one of the bands regularly playing in Prospectors.
   Specialty foods will be prepared by our own local food establishments.
   Many interesting vendors will be located in the park. The vendors will give all visitors to their location a ticket for the Chinese auction. Visit all vendors and get a ticket at each to participate in the auction.
   The auction will include valuable gift certificates plus some $100 gift cards.
   Anyone interested in participating in the parade or registering to be a vendor can obtain a registration form at the municipal building or call Colleen at 744-4594.

   The Bordentown Renegades (girls U16 in the fall of 2011) is holding open tryouts for all girls born after Aug. 1, 1995.
   Tryout will be held Wednesday, June 1 and 8, and Monday, June 6, at 6 p.m. on Friendship Field No. 4, Ward Ave, Bordentown.
   There are no residency restrictions.

   The next Columbus Home and School meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 8, at 8 p.m.
   The meeting will be held in the Mansfield Township Elementary School Media Center. All interested residents are invited to attend the meeting.
   The next Mansfield Township Board of Education meeting will be held Monday, June 6.
   The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Mansfield Township Elementary School, which is located on Mansfield Road East. The meeting will take place in the Media Center.
   Bowling for a cure Fundraiser — Sunday, June 26, at 1 p.m. at Thunderbird Bowling Lanes in Wrightstown.
   The cost is $20 per person for three games and shoes. There will be raffles, door prizes, a 50-50 and refreshments.
   Proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen three-day, 60-mile breast cancer walk in October.

   The Mansfield Township Municipal Complex will be closed every Friday beginning May 27 and continuing through September.
   The business offices will be closed. Only Friday garbage collection will be in service.
   In support of Hadassah’s extraordinary humanitarian efforts, Burlington County Chapter of Hadassah is sponsoring a Fun Day at Dolphin Diner, Route 130, Burlington, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a choice of attending either Tuesday, June 14, or Wednesday, June 15.
   For $20 per person, a Continental breakfast, full lunch and snacks will be served with card, mah jongg or other games of choice played between.
   Many door prizes will be awarded.

   The next scheduled recycle pickup for Mansfield Township is Monday, June 6.
   Mansfield Township is no longer picking up grass clippings with the regular trash.
   Residents can drop off clippings at the recycling center behind the Police Department. Clippings can be dropped off Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. and noon and Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m.
   The Northern Burlington County Regional High School Band Boosters will be holding its sixth annual golf outing Saturday June 25, at the Hanover Golf Club in Jacobstown, New Jersey.
   A 1:30 p.m. scramble format with a shotgun start is scheduled with registration beginning at 11 a.m..
   The tax-deductible donation for golf and dinner is $95, which includes lunch, prizes, golf and dinner by Colonial Village Caterers. Dinner-only guests are invited for $30 following golf.
   The proceeds are used to support the award-winning NBC marching unit.

   The Mansfield Township School District is asking parents or anyone aware of a preschool-aged child between the ages of 3 and5 years old who is developmentally delayed to notify Dori Levy, interim supervisor of special services.
   Those children who qualify as a preschool child with a disability after being evaluated by the Child Study Team will have a program developed addressing specific areas of need such as speech, language, motor and other readiness skills.
