EAST BRUNSWICK — A 67-year-old man suffered serious injuries following a car accident at 8:34 a.m. May 29 on Route 18 northbound near the Brunswick Square Mall.
Nicole M. Salvatore, 19, of Manalapan, was operating a 2006 BMW in the center lane and came to a stop for a red traffic light at Cindy Way, according to East Brunswick police.
Thomas J. Donahue, 67, of Manchester, operating a 2009 Hyundai, was also in the center lane behind Salvatore’s BMW. Police said Donahue failed to come to a stop and struck the rear of the BMW.
Donahue suffered serious chest injuries as a result of the accident. The East Brunswick Rescue Squad and paramedics transported him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
The northbound side of the highway was shut down and traffic was detoured while officers investigated the accident.
Police said the collision is still under investigation. Any witnesses were asked to contact patrolmen Tom Kienle or Jim Angermeier at 732-390-6969.
Donahue remained in critical condition on Tuesday, a hospital spokesman said.
