In order for a gym to be amazing, it has to produce amazing results. It has to be staffed by dedicated people who love what they do each day. The most important element for a successful gym is a staff that has the desire to help others achieve their goals. A gym has to be spotlessly clean and maintained, with machines and equipment in proper order. Equipment has to be the best available and designed with a great floor plan. The hours need to be accommodating to everyone and childcare is needed so that members can balance family in their schedule. There has to be a leader with years of knowledge and expertise, one who has great values and who believes in a mission; exercise changes lives in a positive direction. Powerhouse Gym Hillsborough is the example of an amazing gym.
Owned by Ken and Melody Turash, Powerhouse Gym Hillsborough has all the ingredients necessary for a community to achieve a strong and healthy body. Weight management, cardiovascular, strength and conditioning, certified personal training, along with the vast amount of choreographed exercise classes, nutritional guidance, locker rooms, saunas, showers, massage, free childcare, birthday parties, and silver and fit program for seniors, make Powerhouse Gym stand out for its excellence.
Graduating from Montclair State University with a B.S. in Physical Education and a dual minor in Athletic Training and Business Administration, Ken Turash relishes is his desire to help others change their lives through exercise. Anyone who knows, Ken, can see his zest and enthusiasm. It is evident from the initial start of his day, arriving most mornings at 4:30 AM. His certifications include The American College of Sports Medicine where he is certified as a Health Fitness Instructor. He is also certified as a Weight Management Specialist, Johnny G certified as a Spin Instructor, and for Corrective Exercises and Special Populations. CPR/AED is also in his credentials. Ken previously owned The Personal Training Studio of Princeton, now known as PTS for quite some time establishing a place where the community can receive the training they need to begin an exercise program, maintain their strength, aid in weight management, enhance their sports performance, and perfect their skills as an athlete. Striving to help more people, he and his wife Melody took over Maximum fitness on October 1, 2009 and renamed it Powerhouse Gym. There have been significant changes in the gym since then, adding childcare, new equipment, and group exercise, as well as the direction of a staff under his leadership that produces a warm friendly atmosphere. Adding to the picture is Melody Turash, Ken’s partner and wife. Melody is AAAI certified fitness instructor and personal trainer. Meeting Melody is the icing on the cake. Her contagious smile and warmth inspire new members and further existing relationships. Owning a gym in Saint Louis, Melody has more than 20 years of experience at teaching and instructing in the industry. She is an avid runner, starting out most days with a 6 mile run. Her ideas and innovative thinking help lead Powerhouse Gym in positive directions, where engaging in charitable and community events assist and give back to the community. Often seen, with a beaming smile and lots of energy is Madison Turash, their six year old daughter. Also seen at times for a visit is Jeter, a one year old boxer named after the one and only.
