HILLSBOROUGH: College students earn honors

   
Lafayette College honored students for academic excellence at its annual All-College Honors Convocation on May 1 in Easton, Pa. The college presented awards and prizes to more than 100 students who attained academic success.
   Anthony Giralo of Hillsborough, Class of 2011, received the Carroll Phillips Bassett Prize in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, and was elected to Tau Beta Pi national engineering honor society.
   Sara Yeganeh of Hillsborough, Class of 2014, received the Paul Tully Memorial Prize.
   The keynote speaker was Lafayette alumnus Christine M. Thomas, class of 2001, assistant professor of chemistry at Brandeis University.

   Three Hillsborough students were inducted into national honor societies at the University of Scranton (Pa.).
   They are:
   • Junior Kayla Coady, who joined Alpha Epsilon Delta, the society for health preprofessionals;
   • Junior Joseph F. Pugh who was inducted into Pi Mu Epsilon, the society for mathematics. Pugh is majoring in secondary education mathematics.
   • Freshman Catherine Boylan, who was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, the society for freshmen, on April 16. She is majoring in biochemistry. She was also was named to the dean’s list for both the fall and spring semesters. She is a 2010 graduate of Hillsborough High School.

   Christopher DelMaestro of Hillsborough achieved a 4.0 for the spring semester of his sophomore year at Drew University in Madison, N.J.
   Christopher, a neuroscience major with a minor in chemistry, was inducted into the Neuroscience Honor Society this semester. His overall GPA is 3.89. He is a member of the college baseball team.

   Kaitlin Kwiecinski, a 2010 graduate of Hillsborough High School, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Penn State University, College Park, Pa. She is majoring in education. To be eligible, a student must earn a GPA of 3.50 or higher.

   Two sisters attending Rider University in Lawrenceville were named to the dean’s list for both the fall and spring semesters.
   Margaret Casperson, majoring in communications and event planning, had a grade-point average of 4.0.
   Evelyn Casperson, an elementary education major, integrated science and math, earned a GPA of 3.88.
   Both are freshmen and 2010 graduates of Hillsborough High.

   Sarah Conover of Hillsborough, who is studying elementary education at Widener University in Chester, Pa., was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester as a full-time student who earned a grade-point average of 3.50 and above for the semester.
