Vic Juris and Kate Baker were regulars in the clubs and restaurants in the area in the early 90’s and we are happy to welcome them back to town! They will be in performance at the Hyatt, Wednesday June 15 7:30-10:30PM.
From New York to Europe & Asia, jazz guitarist, Vic Juris has played—everywhere! Inspired by rock and roll legend Chuck Berry, the Jersey City native taught himself to play and was soon appearing with rock and R&B bands throughout the tri-state area. But in his late teens Vic discovered jazz and classical music and that was that. During his career he has shared the stage with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Phil Woods, Jimmy Smith, Sarah Vaughan, Chico Hamilton, Dave Liebman, Richie Cole, Mel Torme, Michel Legrand Eddie Jefferson, Larry Corryell and Nancy Wilson. Vic’s band has recorded on Steeple Chase, Double Time Records (Vic’s 2004 release of “Blue Horizon” listed him as top pics for the year 2004) and Mel Bay. Vic currently tours as a special guest, with his own band or in duo with vocalist Kate Baker.
Kate Baker’s distinctive vocal style and lyrical expression have made her one of today’s most sought after singers. Her voice resonates with her love of diverse musical inspirations whether Jazz, Brazilian, Latin or the Blues. Be it a Cole Porter standard or an Antonio Carlos Jobim composition, English or Portuguese, Kate is a musician’s singer. From an intimate duo to fronting her five-piece ensemble, as well as performing as a guest artist with Big Bands, Kate has excited audiences worldwide. She has been a featured vocalist at Euro-Meet Jazz Festival, The Carini Jazz Festival and The Pergine Spettacolo Jazz Festival, Berkshire Jazz Festival, The Texaco Jazz Series in NY City & The JVC Jazz Festival, among many others. She has filled the rooms at major NY clubs: The Blue Note, Birdland, Trumpets and Visiones. Kate has performed with a host of renowned musicians including: Claudio Roditi, Norman Simmons, Harvie Swartz, Houston Persons, Richie Cole, Vic Juris, Dick Oatts, Dave Stryker, Daduka Fonseka.
