SAT course to help foster friendships

By Jen Samuel, Managing Editor
   Peddie students consider Hightstown home.
Many come to town for a slice of pizza.
Others may visit the Hightstown Memorial Library, or simply partake in one of the borough’s many festive celebrations through out the year.
   Some come to volunteer.
Over the years, countless Peddie students have made huge differences in the community.
For instance, Peddie School alumni Way Cao and Nick Pascullo seek to bridge relationships between Peddie School and Hightstown High School students through an SAT course they are offering this summer.
First, on June 18, students of the Hightstown and East Windsor communities are invited to take a free practice SAT exam.
Beginning in July, the Peddie alumni will teach SAT courses in group sessions that include both Peddie School and Hightstown High School students.
It’s an opportunity for both private and public students to come together in an educational setting. Both young men, who have custom-built an Ivy Insiders Summer Management Program for SAT learning within the Hightstown community, hope the SAT program helps to create new friendships between private and public students.
Moreover, for Mr. Cao and Mr. Pascullo, it’s an opportunity for Peddie School and Hightstown High School Students to learn. According to Mr. Cao, most students on average spend only 10 hours preparing for the SAT college admittance exam.
Mr. Cao and Mr. Pascullo hope to change that.
This revolutionary SAT prep course, offered at discounted prices for those with financial needs, is a benefit to local students two-fold. On one hand, it’s providing students an opportunity to improve their scores at a discounted rate as applicable. On the other hand, it gives both private and public students the chance to work together in a learning environment.
For many young people out there, that endless list of SAT questions may seem daunting. However, for students able to put in the time and study for the exam, most will find that understanding how the exam is structured, via its three parts of math, critical reading and writing, helps to improve initial SAT scores. For students considering signing up for an SAT course this summer, consider first taking the free SAT exam Mr. Cao and Mr. Pascullo are offering this Saturday.
The Peddie graduates will contact everyone individually and let them know how they did and what they can do to improve their scores.
Mr. Cao said he expects the conversations to last up to one hour per student.
Also on Saturday, Mr. Cao and Mr. Pascullo are offering a free College 101 course for parents to learn more about the exam.
This is a fantastic opportunity for adults ask questions about best practices for the SAT exam.
The Herald applauds Mr. Cao and Mr. Pascullo for their efforts in creating an SAT course program geared at bringing together Hightstown High School and the Peddie School students for the betterment of the community as a whole.
