TRENTON – On Hightstown High School Senior Class President Nikki Pincus’s cue, more than 300 students turned their tassels to the right on their mortarboards.
Then, to the cheers of about 1,000 parents and spectators, they created a cloud of blue caps as they threw them up in the air.
The students of the Hightstown High School Class of 2011 took their last test, saw their last pep rally, studied—or maybe slept— through their last puddle. By Thursday night, at the Sun National Bank Center, they were saying goodbye to their classmates, their teachers and their high school. For many, it was also goodbye to Hightstown.
"It’s kind of hard for me to believe I’m not going to school tomorrow," said Tyler Foss, a soon-to-be Rutgers freshman who will study economics in the fall.
Many of the speakers gave well-wishes and advice to the graduating seniors, encouraging them to leave their marks on the world, but to keep in touch with their parents.
Valedictorian One Hyuk Ra said in his address that they will now compete against the world, rather than merely each other.
"Even amidst competition, we can find connections," Mr. Hyuk Ra said.
