HILLSBOROUGH: Elks’ pig roast raises $3,500 to buy speech device

A Hillsborough man was the beneficiary of the good will and $3,500 raised by the Manville-Hillsborough Elks at the third annual A Pig Roast for Alex.
Held on May 22, the charity barbeque featured music, fun and two 225-pound roasted pigs, and brought 200 people out to show support.
The event proceeds benefited Eric Nivison, a 21-year-old who lives at home in Hillsborough with his parents, Lisa and Bill, his younger brother, Karl, and his canine companion and one of the world’s best dogs, Anela. The proceeds from the pig roast and any other fundraisers will be used to buy a Dynavox speech device so Eric will continue to have a clear voice after graduation.
Ms. Nivison and the family attended and were grateful to the Elks for their help.
“I am just completely humbled. We are all humbled. All the efforts that have been put into this day, the generosity of the Elks and the bike club,” she said. Eric and his family enjoyed the support from the communities at the event. Many people that the Nivisons did not know came over to meet them, chat and see Anela the dog.
Larry Kaspereen, the secretary of the motorcycle club from Elks No. 2004 Springfield Hillside Lodge, said he and other members came to the event because, “We support charities throughout the whole state of New Jersey and we donate any money that we make, especially the Special Children’s committee. This pig roast is for a former poster child and that is one thing that we definitely support,” he said.

Elks Exalted Ruler Andrea Liptak was pleased with the event.
“This is our third pig roast for Alex, which has transpired into something wonderful,” she said.
