HILLSBOROUGH: Township man pleads guilty in heroin-induced death

A Hillsborough man has pleaded guilty to distributing heroin that resulted in a death last August.
Steven B. Pinter, 24, of Fox Chase Run, Hillsborough, admitted guilt June 15 to strict liability for a drug-induced death and five counts of distribution of heroin, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s office.
Mr. Pinter agreed with the indictment that said he offered or distributed heroin to six people on Aug. 20 or 21. One, identified only by the initials M.S., died on Aug. 22 as a result of a heroin overdose, police said.
In a six-month investigation by detectives from the Hillsborough Township Police and Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major ýPage=001 Column=001 OK,0000.00þ
Crimes Squad, police said Mr. Pinter bought the heroin in Philadelphia earlier in August and distributed it to buyers in Hillsborough.
Mr. Pinter agreed to a plea arrangement that calls for him to be jailed for six years in state prison. He would have to serve five years and one month before being eligible for parole, according to the No Early Release Act.
Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 9.
Liability for a drug induced death is a first-degree crime, and distribution of heroin a third-degree crime.
The state was represented by Assistant Prosecutor W. Brian Stack.
