It is with a great deal of concern that I am reading about the Sweeney/Christie plan to disallow state employees and retirees from using the doctor or hospital of their own choice. Aside from the very simple fact that the Sen. Sweeney’s proposal is an outright gift to the South Jersey Democrat boss Donald Norcross, the very idea brings back the good old days of the command economy of the Soviet Union. We all saw how splendidly that worked!
If, as Sen. Sweeney and Gov. Christie want, state employees and retirees are limited to New Jersey hospitals and doctors, then cost will go up, not down. All this will do is eliminate the need for the New Jersey doctors and hospitals to truly compete with the teaching hospitals in Philly or NYC, thus driving up costs for the state health benefits plan. This is not the free private enterprise system that the governor claims to support. It is a false economy.
Every citizen, whether state employee or retiree or not, must contact their senator and Assembly member and tell them this idea stinks!
