HOWELL— See turtles, egrets, herons, ospreys and other wildlife in their natural habitat during a boat tour of the Monmouth County Park System’s Manasquan Reservoir in Howell.
Tours are offered on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend (weather permitting). Tours last approximately 45 minutes and begin at the top of the hour from 1-4 p.m. and leave from the Visitor Center, Windeler Road.
Tours are also offered at 2 and 4 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Starting this year, tours will also be offered on the first Friday evening of each month. Call 732-751-9453; times will vary for the evening tours.
Each tour is led by a park system naturalist and offers excellent opportunities to see wildlife. The fee is $5.50 per adult and $3.50 per child age 12 and under. Tickets are available in the lower level of the Visitor Center. Tours can be arranged for organized groups.
The Memorial Day weekend marked the start of summer hours for the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, Georgia Tavern Road, Howell. Summer hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday and continue through Labor Day weekend.
The Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center is dedicated to providing experiences of learning and discovery related to wetlands ecology and wildlife and habitat protection. Through interactive exhibits, multimedia presentations, educational activities for schools and community groups, and wildlife observation areas, visitors gain an understanding of the importance of water in the world.
