CENTRAL JERSEY: State plans Route 1 work Friday

A shift in traffic lanes is scheduled on Route 1 northbound over the Heathcote Brook in South Brunswick on Friday night, the state Department of Transportation announced on Thursday.
NJDOT’s contractor, Mount Construction Inc., is scheduled to shift both Route 1 northbound travel lanes to the right (east) over the Heathcote Brook and establish a new construction zone in the center of the highway. Route 1 southbound will remain in place, according to a statement.
The work is part of an on-going, $2.3 million state-funded project that is replacing the Heathcote Brook culvert and stabilizing the supporting soil under the foundation footings and abutments. NJDOT will employ variable message signs to notify motorists of all traffic pattern changes on Route 1.
Construction is scheduled for completion in late-fall 2011.
The statement said the precise timing of the work mentioned is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
