MONTGOMERY The Township Committee adopted a resolution establishing a no-passing zone along Route 206 at its meeting on June 16.
The resolution indicated that upon investigation by the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Traffic Engineering and Investigations, a recommendation was made to revise the centerline pavement markings to a no-passing zone along Route 206 throughout the entire length of Montgomery Township.
”The request to make this change came from residents near Sycamore Lane and Platz Drive and from the Montgomery police department,” said Mayor Mark Caliguire. “This area is the only remaining area of Route 206 where it is one lane in each direction where passing is allowed. The Montgomery police had real concerns about the hazard posed by allowing passing in this area. At most times of day there is simply too much traffic and not enough distance for passing to be a safe option.”
”The striping will be changed to a double yellow line, but NJDOT has not gotten back to the township yet with a timeline,” said Mayor Caliguire.
