Two 16-year-old Robbinsville boys who took a parent’s car on a joy ride and crashed into a street sign on the corner of Route 526 and Anderson Lane at 4:06 a.m. June 18 were charged with underage consumption of alcohol and obstructing justice.
Patrolman Thomas Egan responded to a 911 call about an accident at the corner of Route 526 and Anderson Lane. The officer found an occupied vehicle with front-end damage farther down the street on the Anderson Lane cul-de-sac.
While searching the area for the driver, Patrolman Egan found the two intoxicated teenagers hiding in wooded area. Neither was injured. An investigation revealed one of the boys had had taken the vehicle form his parents without permission, police said.
The 16-year-old who had been driving failed field sobriety tests and was additionally charged with underage DWI, being an unlicensed driver, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, leaving an accident scene, failure to report an accident, and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
Both boys were released to their parents after being arrested and charged.
Vincent A. Scannella, 28, of Yardley, Pa. was charged at 1:07 a.m. on June 16 with driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, speeding, reckless driving and careless driving, police said.
Patrolman Thomas Paglione stopped Mr. Scannella’s vehicle for speeding on Route 130 South near the Host Motel. Mr. Paglione failed field sobriety tests, was arrested, charged and released pending court, police said.

Sherry Jefferson, 47, of Whiting, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Manchester Township at 10:35 a.m. on June 14, police said.
The warrant was discovered after Patrolman Christopher Quackenbush stopped her vehicle on Route 539 for improper passing, police said. Ms. Jefferson was taken to police headquarters to await transport by Manchester police. Her car was towed.
A 2002 Honda XR140 dirt bike was stolen from a residence on Tower Road.
The theft was reported at 2 p.m. June 12 and was investigated by Cpl. Robert Zack and Patrolman Quackenbush.
