Township resident and New Jersey State Library media contact Gary Cooper helped the library take home an award for excellence in public relations last month, according to a press release.
The New Jersey State Library was recognized for excellence in public relations by the New Jersey Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America at its 21st annual Pyramid Awards reception, according to the release.
The library received a Pyramid award for its statewide NJ Library Champions awareness campaign and an award for its “Connecting People with Information through Libraries” brochure, according to the release.
The awards were presented by Ken Hunter, past president of PRSA/NJ, to Mr. Cooper, public relations and media contact, at the Basking Ridge County Club on June 15.
”The 2011 PRSA NJ Pyramid Awards highlighted some of the world’s best campaigns, proving that New Jersey PR professionals are truly excelling in the industry,” said Rich Lukis, president of PRSA/NJ in the release.
The State Library’s campaign featured 16 celebrities promoting the value of libraries as transformational forces in people’s lives and was supported by more than 700 public and school libraries, according to the release.
The New Jersey State Library has three bureaus: the Library Development Bureau, the NJ State Library Talking Book & Braille Center and the State Library Information Center.
The State Library connects people with information through its service to libraries, government and people with special needs.
The library also is affiliated with Thomas Edison State College in Trenton and coordinates, promotes and funds the New Jersey Library Network of which the South Brunswick Public Library is a member, according to the release.
Last year, attendance in New Jersey’s public libraries was well over 51 million with total circulation of almost 64 million, an increase of almost 6 million, according to the release.
Mr. Cooper also serves as commander for the American Legion Post 401 on Major Road in Monmouth Junction.
