To the editor:
Lawrence Township Public Schools has reached a new embarrassing low, as seen in the Trenton Times sports section on June 14.
I taught at Lawrence High School for 32 years, retiring in 2002.
I have seen many high school principals and superintendents exercise their craft during my tenure. I have witnessed the academic standards and behavioral expectations adjust with society’s current norms.
Through these many variables, one thing stood constant, Mr. Patrick Tarrant’s expectations, standards, goals and commitment to his physical education teaching and varsity coaching positions. Pat stood for all that high school sports are supposed to be about. He never adjusted his standards for a win. His players learned valuable life’s lessons on a daily basis.
The Board of Education should exercise their sense of correctness and what’s best for the students of Lawrence and return Pat Tarrant as the head varsity basketball position.
