HILLSBOROUGH: College graduates share the news

    Twin sisters Ellyn and Lauren Griggs of Hillsborough graduated with engineering degrees with honors and awards from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken on May 26.
    Ellyn graduated with both bachelor and master’s degree in mechanical and systems engineering, respectively. Lauren graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering.
    Both played Division 3 college field hockey and have prestigious resumes of accomplishments in and out of school. For example, (e.g., Scholar’s program, resident assistant, Technogenesis program, sorority executive board positions, club field hockey coaching, marathon races, award/recognition from International Society of Engineering for senior design competition submission).
    They both have jobs lined up after college and, for the first time in their lives, they will be physically separated across states. Ellyn will be with L’Oreal in Florence, Kentucky, while Lauren will be with Integra LifeSciences Corporation in Plainsboro.

    The University of Scranton (Pa.) conferred 46 doctoral degrees in physical therapy and 700 master’s degrees, both of which are records for the university, at its post-baccalaureate commencement ceremony held on campus on May 28.
    Sarah T. MacCombie and Christina R. Marino, both of Hillsborough, earned master of science degrees in occupational therapy from the College of Graduate and Continuing Education.
    Alexandra T. Von Nessen of Hillsborough was among the more than 970 students earning a bachelor’s or associate’s degree at the University of Scranton (Pa.)’s undergraduate commencement on May 29 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre.
    Ms. Von Nessen earned a bachelor of arts in communication from the university’s College of Arts and Sciences.
    University President Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., served as principal speaker.

    Emily Abramson of Hillsborough graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island on May 22 with a bachelor of science degree in communicative disorders.She was a Centennial Scholar and a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is also a member of the National Student Speech, Language, and Hearing Association, a pre-
professional membership association for students studying communication sciences and disorders.
    Emily has received a full Graduate School Tuition Scholarship to continue studies at URI this fall, pursuing an advanced degree in speech language pathology. She is the daughter of Gary and Beverly Abramson of Hillsborough.

    Lindsay Ricketts was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in drama at the 116th commencement of Ithaca (N.Y.) College on May 22. She is the daughter of Jean and Scott Ricketts and a 2007 graduate of Hillsborough High School.

    Christopher Peltack of Hillsborough received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., the weekend of May 21.

    Kelsey Morrison of Hillsborough graduated from the University of New Haven (Conn.) on May 15 with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice.

    Students from Somerset County recently received degrees at Berkeley College’s commencement ceremony at the Izod Center in East Rutherford.
    Tiffany Brackett of Hillsborough, a student at the Woodbridge campus, received an associate in applied science in fashion marketing and management.
    Sarabjit Kaur of Manville, a student at the Newark campus, earned a bachelor of science in accounting.
    Keith Landon of Hillsborough, who attended the Woodbridge campus, earned a bachelor of science in management.

    Three local residents received undergraduate degrees from Villanova (Pa.) University at the commencement ceremony on May 15 in Villanova Stadium. They are Ryan Bennett, Lisa Cannellos and Christopher Plaskon.
