The library ramps up its day and evening programs for kids and families in early July.
Youngsters in grades 6-12 are invited to a Harry Potter Party at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, at the public library in the municipal complex on South Branch Road.
Kids can choose their Hogwarts house, participate in wizarding games and enter to win a prize. Register in advance.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, July 7, in a program called “Mastodons, Cavemen and Bears, Oh My!” for children in grades K-6, families and kids can learn about the Ice Age and the life of cavemen and the unusual animals. An interactive game show, “Are You Smarter Than a Caveman?” will also be played. Register in advance.
’Sounds Like Science,’ for ages 3-7 is a 40-minute show that highlights the sense of sound, will be held Monday, July 11 at 4 p.m.

Computer courses are offered. Introduction to Google Documents, Part 1, will be held Thursday, July 7, at 7 p.m. An Introduction to YouTube, Part 1, will be held Friday, July 8, at 3 p.m. with part two scheduled for Friday, July 15, at 3 p.m.
In both courses, limited seating requires registration.
The Friends Book Group will meet Tuesday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m.
A three-week yoga series will teach meditation in motion, and increasing flexibility, strength, energy and relaxation. It starts 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14.
The classic action movie ‘Sahara’ will be shown Friday, July 15, at 7 p.m. Humphrey Bogart considered it one of his finest films. Nominated for three Academy Awards, “Sahara” follows a mixed group of Allied soldiers trying to escape a German trap in the desert of North Africa.
Here are programs intended for youngsters. Registration is required:
• Anime Club (grades 8-12) — Hang out with friends as we watch anime, make candy sushi and discuss the latest manga. Thursdays, June 30 and July 14, at 5 p.m.
• First Look Books Drop-In (grades 6-12) — Want a free book? Stop by the Teen Center and get a sneak peek at new teen titles before they hit the shelves. Grab a free book for the holiday weekend. Saturday, July 2, at 9:30 a.m.
• Summer storytime — ‘The Cow Says Moo’ (ages 2-6) will feature animal sounds everywhere. Monday, July 11, at 10 a.m.
• Singing Babies (newborn to age 2) — Start your little one on the road to a lifetime love of music making. Tuesday, July 12, at 10 a.m.
• Reading Buddy (grades 2-4) — Children will read aloud with a teen volunteer at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on each of July 11, 12, 13 and 14.
• Early Reader Book Club (grades K-2) — We will discuss the book, do some activities and make a craft. Tuesday, July 12, at 3 p.m.
• ’Songs for Playful Children’ (ages 4 and older) — Join Kurt Gallagher and giggle, dance and clap to rhythmic and rockin’ songs. Tuesday, July 12, at 7 p.m.
• Story and craft — In ‘Water Bottle Maracas’ (ages 2-6), kids will listen to a story and create a craft to take home. Wednesday, July 13, at 10 and 11 a.m.
• ’Magic of Amore’ – (grades 6-12) — Amore uses the audience for demonstrations of mind and body incorporating psychology and parapsychology. Wednesday, July 13, at 7 p.m.
• Lego Club — Grades 3-5 – join us for this brand new program where we supply the Legos, and you supply the creativity – July 13 at 3 p.m.
• Science for 4’s, 5’s, 6’s — Join us for stories and hands-on activities as you and your child explore science concepts together – July 14 at 10 a.m.
• ’Flight’ — Join us for some hands-on science fun on Thursday, July 14. The program for grades K-2 is at 2 p.m. with one for grades 3-5 at 3 p.m.
• Teen Crafternoon — Kids in grades 6-12 can bring a white cotton T-shirt and we’ll provide supplies to make a tie-dye creation. Saturday, July 16 at 11 a.m.
