MANVILLE: Many people had hand in bringing market to town

Lots of people were key in bringing a farmers market to Manville.
At the April 26, 2010, Borough Council meeting, then-Councilwoman Sherri Lynn reported she was looking into a farmers market with the Manville Business and Professional Association.
May 10, Ms. Lynn reported discussing the potential market with the MBPA and introduced John Prudente, owner of the Riverside Grill, as one of the driving forces of the Somerville Farmers’ Market.
At the meeting, Councilwoman Susan Asher said she had met with the representatives of the farmers market, and they were requesting a waiver of fees for the first year. Ms. Lynn gave information regarding the fees charged by Somerville and that Somerville had a sponsor.
At the May 24, 2010, meeting, Ms. Lynn reported progress and hoped to have all the information for the June 14 meeting when Mr. Prudente spoke about the market and a discussion was held. Mr. Prudente said he would get all the information to Borough Attorney Gary Garwacke to review.
According to the minutes, Ms. Asher, the liaison to the MBPA, said at the Aug. 9 meeting that the MBPA had decided to wait until spring to start the market.
Last week’s story should have given more credit to Ms. Lynn, Mr. Prudente and Ed Komoroski in getting a farmers market in Manville.
