ROBBINSVILLE Police have charged a Bordentown woman with stealing $144,389 from TriCore, the payroll services company on North Gold Drive that is owned by Mayor Dave Fried.
Christine A. Matkowski, 39, of Chestnut Street in Bordentown, is accused of having used a company debit card to make “unauthorized cash withdrawals and purchases” between September 2009 and May 2011, according to the criminal complaint filed by Sgt. Christopher Nitti in Robbinsville Municipal Court on June 14.
Ms. Matkowski was charged with theft and spent four days in the Mercer County jail before posting $60,000 full cash bail, law enforcement officials said.
Mayor Fried, TriCore’s founder and CEO, said in an interview on June 23 that Ms. Matkowski had contacted the bank and somehow obtained a debit card in his name even though she was not an account signatory. Ms. Matkowski then used the debit card to make frequent cash withdrawals at ATM machines, Mr. Fried said.
”She asked for and was given a credit card in my name,” Mr. Fried said. “I haven’t received a satisfactory answer from the bank on that.”
Mr. Fried said Ms. Matkowski, who had worked for TriCore since 2007, was fired in May after the alleged theft was discovered.
”It’s very frustrating and disappointing,” Mr. Fried said. “This is someone who worked for us for a long time and someone who we trusted.”
